What is the minimum memory requirements for the OS? The knowledge base is to hard to use at Msoft for what should be a no brainer.

I thought it was 32 meg but could it be 16?

It can be run on 32 (Not sure what it requires).

However, you will be much happier with win95. I generally say
32MB+ for win95
64MB+ for win98
128MB+ for 2k

I do not know the physical limits though (that windows needs before it will install), it could be 32 or 48 or something. However, I know above is what you need to use the OS halfway. I recomend at least twice as much for each OS as listed above for smooth multitasking. Memory is so cheap these days, why not.

Well my neighbor wanted to install acopy of 98SE on a micron with a pentium 150 processor and 16 meg of ram. I put in the 98 start up disk and it sat there, never loaded squat. I used another boot disk and it loaded drivers for the CDRom but I thought the fact the 98 startup disk didn't work might be a clue. I used the very same start up disk earlier,so I know it was good, and the floppy worked on the very next bootdisk I put in. I am persuaded to think 16 meg for 98 is not enough. Yet I did get the os to begin install to the point of putting in the CD key, when we found out he did not have one. His grandaughter has it at home. So we went another route with a back up copy from another computer on a burned disk, but the cdrom drive would not recognize the disk.

When it rains,it pours. :(

I installed win 98 with 16 megs of Ram, it's so slow of a process though,
My buddy wanted win 98se on there, after using my Athlon at 1.4gigs I don't know if I want to do others computers now.
It seems like eternity.

Since Win98 is only an upgraded version of Win95, it should install on a 16Mb of Ram system. In fact, the sys requirement for the Win95 was less than a P-150. Just as said, it would be really slow. Maybe you can recommend to your to at least upgrade the Ram to at least 48Mb or more. The price so cheap he shouldn't have a problem.

Technical minumum is 32mb, and recommended is 64Mb as far as I know. :)

Doesn't mean it won't work with less though. ;)
