Quick! Will a laptop thinkpad 600 boot up without a cmos bat.

I have a dead laptop and I removed the cmos battery and it does not boot...

Nope, it wont. You will get 2 constant errors until a working cmos battery is in. Unless it just doesnt turn on at all then its probably just busted.

Never got around it on a ThinkPad. You need a battery.

Can't bypas on the 600 series, even if you enter the correct info, on the next reboot it will still crap out. Trust me. I have about 20 of em at home.

Sony's will boot with a bypass without a cmos battery.

Understood, but he's said that it's busted; i.e. not POSTing. If it's not POSTing then how would he reboot it?

I think he's saying that it's dead to the world, he's tried clearing the BIOS by pulling the battery, and it won't boot. All that, to me, says lack of POST 🙂

Perhaps... but ThinkPads are notorius for failing post due to bad CMOS battery... replacing it is the only way to be sure.
