Quick! What would you pick? Athlon 1.333 or Duron 1.6 (NOT overclocking)

I'd pick the Duron 1.6; I've got systems with an XP1600+ (1.4Ghz)and a Duron 1.6 and the 1.6 is virtually as fast for 90% of the stuff (if the increased cache will help you (ie, video encoding, compiling, etc) then go for the Athlon

Whoever picked the t-bird needs to do more reading on these tech sites and less voting

I'd use the Duron, it'll run a lot cooler, and overclock well if you decide to do so.

Duron 1.6 for sure (SSE2, thermal diode, less heat) assuming the motherboard accepts Applebred Durons. What motherboard is this?

They only have SSE (not SSE2) and any KT333 board should work with an Applebred Duron, it just may not correctly recognize it, I know I got a KT400 board to work with one.

Ooops, you're right, SSE. I think I have too much Athlon64 stuff crammed into my brain at the moment. 😀

yeah the near 200mhz clock increase makes up for the lowered cache when your not overclocking

i chose the duron
