I am building a 2500+ system with an abit NF7-S board. I am looking for 2x256mb on the cheap that will do 200 fsb. I finally decided on Buffallo CH5 and went to order from newegg, but they have two similar sticks. Can you guys decipher?

Link #1
Link #2

The second one ends up being cheaper because of the free shipping and it has more reviews, however is this CH5?

Also if you guys have other recommendations, lets hear it, I will be ordering in about an hour.

<edit> oops, sorry, fixed now </edit>

putting picture provided for the 2nd link into photoshop and spotlighting an individual chip.. it shows ch-5.. but that is no guarantee - Newegg sometimes uses pics just for illustrative purposes.

Looking at the Buffalo webpage for their chips.. WC stands for Winbond Corp..
http://www.buffalotech.com/memory/prod-ddrdimm.html

A few people reviewing them say the 2nd ones are CH-5 also..

Good Mystery .. Thanks.. I am curious to know why Newegg states that one is Winbond Chips.. but doesn't say it in the others?

from:

http://www.buffalotech.com/memory/prod-ddrdimm.html

256MB DD4002-S256/WC Winbond
256MB DD4344-S256/SD Samsung
256MB DD466-S256/MC Micron

The difference is the different types of actual RAM modules used. Buffalo, doesn't actually 'make' RAM, they just assemble modules from other manufactures in their (or someone else's PCB). The first link is to the ones with the Winbond modules, the other doesn't specify. So, they might be Winbond, Samsung, or Micron modules. However, it appears that the 'DD4002' denotes Winbond. So, they might be the same thing.

Winbonds getting rare (esp BH5) and so they may have sold out and replaced the Buf's with the ones that have Hynix chip or the like

Okay that makes sense...

Can you guys do me a favor and go to the first link, try to add two sticks to your cart. Does it work? Everytime I add it and then change the quantity to 2, hit update, it refreshes with only 1.

Thanks,
Josh

I order a lot of stuff from newegg and they really are great at getting stuff to you in a hurry.

I know this isn't Buffalo, but it is on the cheap... Plus, Crucial is Micron RAM, which Buffalo uses also. Why not get the RAM straight from the people who make the modules and save a few bucks...?

Edit: oops, my bad, this is a 128 MB stick... I thought that the price was a bit too good to be true.

Do you think it is worth the extra $25 to go with something like this?

Linky

I just want to turn my 2500+ into a 3200+, not going to wring every last drop of performance out of it.

null

The Barton 3200+ uses a 400Mhz FSB so for best performance you SHOULD get PC3200 memory.
