Quick web hosting question..

Im trying to set up my own web Gallery. Did some looking around and decided to go with coppermine. Ill register my domain with namecheap.com and get hosting through ripplehost I think. I have about 1500-2000 pictures id like up there @ ~1.5GBs. It is going to be a private gallery mostly for just family and friends. Do you guys think id be ok with the $10/year plan or the $25/year plan

$10/year = 250mb/4gb transfer
$25/year = 350mb/7.5gb transfer

My main concern is the disk space 250/350 with my 1.5gb of pictures...im a noob though, so maybe the two arn't related. I pm'ed Rossman yesterday, but he is either very busy or I've annoyed him in some way. 🙁
 
what can you afford? What do you need? Those two questions would answer yours right there. You can't fit 1.5GB of pictures into 350MB of webspace, plain and simple.
 
well it's pretty simple really...you're not going to be able to store 1.5gb worth of pictures on 250 or 350mb of space

unless you compress them into a different format and make them smaller

1.5GB down to 350MB??? Not gonna happen.
 
ross is a busy man... and... 1.5GB of pictures isn't going to fit on 350MB of space 😛 Do you really need all that space? I mean, you can resize images for the web down to like 200kb from your 1MB images (at least, assuming so going from your info). If you want the full images to be available to family.. well.. GL. heh. I wanted to do that too, but we all have 5MP cameras and it gets big, fast, and servers don't like huge file uploads.

Good choice on coppermine tho.

those prices are way to low to be anything reliable... ive used the free, cheap and expsensive web hosts out there (i run several websites) and trust me when i say you get what you pay for

if you're talking about me, it's because it's purely an AT thing. No one else is spose to get it, and as ross knows, i'm a DA freak and want to get it used 😛
