Quick way to copy entire contents of HD?

hypothetical question: if i wanted to transfer everything from one HD to another - the operating system, settings, all that jazz; is there an easy way to do it? im getting the feeling this is a stupid question, but how would one go about it?

Ghost or Drive Image. Symantec bought Drive Image so it will soon be the same thing.

The utilities from the hatd drive manufacturer. Maxblast, Data Lifeguard, etc.
