I am thinking about purchasing the Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ848 11.6-Inch HD Netbook from amazon. Any thoughts on it? It looks to be in my price range ($400) and it looks like it can handle the basic stuff i want to do; microsoft excel mainly. It has 4gb of memory so i am thinking the response time should be pretty good also.

Awainting thoughts.

That netbook has decent specs, but I can't see myself doing very much excel on a tiny 11.6" screen. Also, there is no 9-key numeric keypad on the tiny keyboard, which is kind of important for heavy excel use. I'd instead recommend an entry level 14" or 15" laptop, which should be easy to find at approximately same price and better specs.

Good luck.

Asus netbooks are generally regarded to be better quality, but the gap shouldn't be that wide. I would advise that you go with a E350 processor though for not much more money. 1.0GHz vs 1.6GHz, will probably make a big difference.

Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-006-_-Product

You can pick up a 4GB SODIMM for about $30 right now if you need more memory.

That's a fine netbook and Acer's Aspire One series isn't much worse in terms of build quality than the Asus netbooks. I like Acer's keyboards better, FWIW.

Also, Target is going to have a 2GB DDR3/250GB hard drive C-50 11.6" netbook + a $50 Target gift card for $250 (so net cost on the netbook is $200) starting on Sunday. At that price, it's really a no-brainer. Edit: This is the specific model Target will have on sale.

The target one has the same cpu and video and its gonna be half the price so I say go for that one! You can upgrade the 2gb of ram it comes with to 4 gb for $29 (newegg) so then the only difference will be the harddrive. Ive been shopping for months for an 11.6" as I love its portability but I just couldnt get comfortable with the small keyboard of the 10.1" for any type of extended typing. So I finally made up my mind that an ASUS in the $350 range was going to be about the best value I could find. Then someone leaked the ad for this Target deal on slickdeals so I ran over to target and bought one. I am actually typing this response on it right now. I plan to just go back on sunday and pricematch to the deal price.

i think that's a desktop drive. won't fit. and not a good deal for that size drive anyway. regularly on sale for $50 or less.

if you want something that will really improve performance you want an SSD. if you want size and some performance you can get the seagate momentus XT hybrid drive.
though any 7200 rpm notebook drive will probably improve the computer a bit. 500 GB scorpio black is on sale at newegg right now for $60 after coupon
