Quick vid-card + Battlefield Vietnam question

Hey all. I have a friend who is a huge Battlefield nut, so naturally he wants to start playing Vietnam when it comes out. Right now he has an older GFMX440 card, which although a little aged runs the regular Battlefield just fine. He already knows he wants to upgrade when Vietnam comes out.

My first question is, does anyone know for sure when the new versions of all the cards are going to hit the market? I know I have heard lots of dates, but I hadn't seen anything solid as of yet. Obviously if they come out at or around the time of the game it would be to our advantage to wait so that we could take advantage of any price drops.

Next, does anyone know what kind of requirements hardware-wise Vietnam will have? A game that is out now that it will compare to in that regard? Basically what we are thinking is that if Vietname comes out and his card can still play it at all, but the new versions of the vid-cards come out in two weeks or something, then he will struggle through for awhile with his current card until they do.

Thanks in advance,

Smithers

If he absolutely needs a new card now I would get the Sapphire 9800 Pro as it is around $200 right now. However in this kind of situation the best thing to do is wait for the market to develope untill the game is released. A lot can happen in two months.

There are threads already about nv40 ati 420 or whatever. These are going to be very very expensive and your best bet is the ati 9800 pro. It will be a good card for a long time to come and for 200.00. If he has a 440mx you better check what powersupply he has. All new power cards require a 300w ps and preferrably a 350. Plus a spare molex connector from ps to the video card. Any card is better than a 440mx and the 9800p will be light years ahead.
