My parents file me on their tax as dependent. I want to file myself as independent on my taxes.

my friend told me he does this w/o no problem, i want to know is this legal? I mean i live at my own house, have loans, and have a job.

They file me as dependant so they can recieve education benefit return or something.

Please LMK thank you

I dont think they can.

I filed as independent and my Dad was pissed cause he tried to file me as a dependent and couldnt. I dont know how he found out, but it wasnt from me so I think the IRS told him to jump off a bridge or something.

How old are you? But if you don;t live with them and/or they don;t pay the majority of your bills then they can;t claim you. And no you and they can;t claim yourself. So its either you are them.
