Hey folks,
2 people making identical amounts of money in 2009, one is 1099 and the other is standard w-2. Both take identical deductions for things like charitable donations, mortgage interest, etc and no oddball deductions like mileage or home-office etc.
The 1099 is liable for ~7% more to cover fica and that's it no? I'm told there was new legislation that raises taxes for freelancers but this is news to me.
