Quick student loan consolidation question...

If i consolidate while in school, i lose my 6-month grace period when i graduate since technically my loans enter repayment right now. However, when i consolidate, i apply for a deferment so i don't have to begin paying until i graduate.

Am i correct?

yes, but grace period != deferment if i understand it correctly.

If the gov't is paying for the interest on a stafford loan, i think that they still pay for the interest during your grace period. Deferment = interest is racking up on your end.

Call your loan company and ask

Either way you should not have to pay anything until 6 months after you fall below half time, or something along those lines as that's how it is here.

You will have to sign an in-school deferment. Talk to the company you are doing this through. They should help you step by step
