Quick SSD question.

I recently acquired two CT64M225 64GB, the crucial 64 gig drives...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148318

They have the indilinix controllers from what i have read and support trim and GC, i dont do much except some gaming / occasional visual studio programming however i got the drives cheap enough for me to get into the SSD game.

I understand trim is a vital part in upkeep for the drives and from what i can read if i wanted to put the two drives in a raid array i would lose the trim functionality and have only the GC to rely on to keep the drives speed up.

I have read mixed reviews of people saying its fine, and others saying that they noticed a performance degradation after some time... i dont have a real reason for running them in a raid array other than the increase in speed.

Since im coming from an ancient mechanical drive im sure i will notice a huge difference either way. Would i be better off not running them in a raid array and retaining trim, or putting them into raid relying only on GC?

Thanks in advance.

I think just having the SSD will be so fast, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between no raid and raid0. I suppose you might benefit from faster write speeds though.

I don't know how much trouble it is to create a raid array, but to me, just having the SSD is fast enough that it wouldn't be worth the trouble. I also don't want to run into degradation issues because TRIM isn't enabled under raid. I think you can fix that, but again, I just don't really want to deal with it.

Thanks, yea the more i read the more i read about people having to un raid and wipe drives and trim etc etc.

Im leaning the same way, im sure compared to this slug of a drive i have now (5.3) WE rating the SSD will be amazing, maybe ill wait to raid when there is a more reliable way to trim the array.

My friend has OCZ Vertexes that are running in raid. His GC is aggressive enough (older firmware) that the lack of TRIM is having very minimal effects.
