Quick seti question - running seti on win xp-different users

My friend Edward_Wolfe is crunching right along, completing 9 wu's this week so far.

But he has different users who log in,and wants them to have to have seti run no matter who is logged in.

I set it up in the admin account but it doesn't start automatically in those accounts.

Question: What do i need to do to get seti to start automaticly in all accounts no matter who is logged in?

thanks everyone
mike

install seti as a service is my best guess...but i dont run seti so I'm sure someone that is much more helpful than I will be around shortly 🙂

Installing it as a service is probably the way to go. I don't know if the client can install itself as a service, but I believe there is something called firedaemon or something that will install programs as services.

EDIT: Check this and this out. HTH!

I put a shortcut of seti driver in my startup folder in my admin account, & it starts up every time. Usually windows asks if you want to do do this, since it'll affect all users. If it doesn't ask that, then you'll know to try something else.

For the admin account, or for the allusers account? Allusers should work and I should have thought of that originally 😛

bingo

that works it just starts at 0%

It won't cause problems with the wu in the seti folder will it?

thanks n0cmonkey and Coquito and soni

for all the help

If Windows XP is setup with multiple users and no one is logged in, Seti will not start (even if the startup shortcut is placed in the ALL USERS STARTUP). The only way around this on systems that have multiple users with individual login names (icons/buttons) is with a Seti Service Install.

Anyone of the ones on Soni's, Shuxclams's, or Sukhoi's (where is he anyway?) websites (or the one that Robor uses by way of Freewolf) will work just fine . The only problem with most of them is there is not any way to cache WUs. The machines will have to transmit results and download new WUs each time they finish crunching a WU. If that is not a problem (the machine is online 24/7), then you are good to go.

If the machine only gets logged on to the internet occasionally, you should go with one of the more complicated Service Installs that include either SetiDriver or SetiHide.

Yawn, good morning everyone. 🙂

his machine is on 24/7...but he unplugs the cable modem from the computer when not in use.

http://smokeball.gygabyte.com/SetiHide_XP_Service.exe

There you go. 🙂

When the above linked file is executed it will place all of the files you need in: C:\Windows\SHSRV

Check out the "READ_ME.TXT" file.

1. Be sure to use your own "user_info.sah"
2. Use the "halt_if_running.txt" file to stop the Cli Client when Task Manager is running.
3. Make sure SetiHide is working just the way you want it before you install it as a service.

thanks greg

I have come to really appreciate being on this team
