Quick? RE: Using my Current Memory in triple channel

I currently have 4x1gig ddr3 2000 in my current rig on nv790i mobo.

Can I take 3 of these sticks and run them on an x58 motherboard in triple channel mode so long as the specs of the 3 sticks are exactly the same?

I don't have to go and buy 3 sticks of "triple channel memory" do I?

Thanks

Yup, those should be fine.

You can put all four in actually; check your mobo manual on what arrangement for all four, but it'll likely set asymmetric triple channel, which i'd rather have w/ 4 GB than only 3 GB.

Check the voltage to make sure they can run at 1.5V/1.65V at whatever speed you want from them.

So it seems to me that when RAM is advertised as "triple channel" its nothing more than 3 sticks of the identical ram...

I was looking at the EVGA x58 sli and it seems from the manual that it cannot do asymmetrical triple channel. Not a deal breaker for me but I will see if the P6T deluxe can do it.

Yeah i just checked it also.
It does say dual channel with four DIMMs, but there's nothing wrong with that.

I'd say bench w/ 3 in triple channel vs. the 4 in dual channel & see what the difference is.
