Quick RAM Question

Hello

I currently have 4GB 1600Mhz Ram in my computer and plan on getting 4 more, sadly it seems that no shop home here sells 2x2gb anymore, only 2x4gb. So i am wondering if it is possible to use different ram modules.

So, currently i have 2x2gig mushkin redline 1600mhz cl6 - could these be paired with 2x2gig "insert name" 1600mhz clx ram?

It is quite possible, but you'll get better results matching the RAM you already have as closely as possible. Mushkin is generally a very good quality make and NewEgg carries their full line. Their prices are going to be much better than you would pay locally as well.

I would also consider jumping to the 2x4 config instead of getting another 2x2 pair, as it keeps two slots open for further expansion (which I'm planning on doing shortly).

I live in denmark so i unfortunately can't order from newegg, mushkin sadly isn't a preferred brand home here so not many retailers stocking them. Only have one internet retailer selling 2x4gigs, and well they aren't exactly cheap.

However it might be true that i should consider gettings 4gig modules instead as i'm soon planning to upgrade, which means itll be triple channel instead of dual, would rather have 3x4 than 6x2

If everything works smoothly, sit back and enjoy 12GB of RAM.

If it doesn't work out, just use the 2x4GB and sell the 2x2GB kit.
