Quick questions about running cable through wall...

I'm planning on running RG6 Coax through my walls and attaching them to wall plates (so they look nice). I have a couple of quick questions though. 1) Is this safe to do without any special wire or running the cable through a shielded pipe first? 2) Also, the walls are insulated, will this hurt/affect anything (Aside from me ripping some of the insulation up while running the cables through)? Thanks a lot for your help.

When the cable guys run the wires, they just blast through the wall with a drill bit. You don't need any special wire or conduit. You don't even need a junction box- you can use a 'device mounting plate', you just cut the hole, insert the mount, and there's two tabs that tighten up behind the drywall to secure it. It gives you something to fasten the cover plate to.

PS only possible hazard is the electic wiring in the wall.....go slow, poke around before drilling the second hole.

Also, put a couple feet of distance between any electrical outlets. Watch out for wallstuds too. Drilling a hole through one of those isn't fun.

Pulling cable through insulated walls can be a pain. If you're routing your cables on a single floor, you might be able to remove your baseboards and run the cable behind them.
