Need my new permanent resident thing to renew my license. License expires Oct. 1st.
Residence process was started back when I still lived with my mom (2+ years ago), all documents sent to her address.
Mother unexpectedly will not give me either the new permanent resident card or letter stating the extension, one of which I need to renew my license.

How do I force her to give them to me? They are important documents that belong to me, do I go to the police?

Note that I asked her repeatedly, and she said she will give me the documents closer to the expiration date. I want to do this ASAP as there is only 1 month left and there is always the possibility of problems. I have absolutely no idea why she won't give me what I ask, totally unexpected. I tried to reason with her that it makes no sense to give me the documents several weeks later rather than now, but no dice. I don't get it, WTH is her problem?! I'd rather not resort to more heavy-handed measures but she is leaving me no choice . . .

You mean your drivers license? What is the worst case outcome if you don't have a drivers licence? Is public transportation an option? Since these documents legally belong to you I'm sure there are legal actions you could take if she holds them hostage but doing so is also fairly drastic which is why I ask if you could manage without your license for some period.

I don't understand why she is holding them hostage? Maybe she lost them and is trying to look for it before you find out she lost it.

  1. Call the "document issuing agency"
  1. Tell them you haven't received the documents
  1. Ship to another address
  1. ...
  1. Profit?

Yes, driver's license.

Public transportation isn't going to work, Southern CA FTL. I have to drive back and forth between two colleges this semester.

If getting the stuff through legal means takes as long or longer than the delay it makes no sense to take that course of action, so I may have to wait, and hopefully everything works out before my license expires.

And no, no pics. She is the devil. I'm not liking her right now, she asked me to leave today after I insisted about the documents. She never did that before. What I asked was perfectly reasonable, and I did so calmly, no emotion in my voice at all. But she asked me to leave, WTF. It feels like she kicked me out, out of the house that my dad bought for the family, but that she currently resides in because of my dad's goodwill (and unfortunately, foolishness). The audacity. Damn her, I feel betrayed. NO PICS, I don't have any of that devil.

Maybe she is doing it because she wants to force me to visit more often, before the last visit I hadn't been there in about a month. It sounds absolutely silly, but I certainly hope this all that it is, though I can't imagine any other reason.

Guess I will look into seeing if the documents could be reisued, but this may take time and the people at USCIS don't seem like the nicest people in the world.

Wow, your mom is pretty messed up. Give the police a call and hopefully they can help.

Bring her some pie, and tell her you love her. Then mention the documents, once she's in a happy place in her soul. If she doesn't budge, then sic the cops on her!!
