Is one 5850 > than 2 8800gts 512's in SLI?

My max resolution is now 1680x1050 thanks to my nice screen biting the dust...

Also, would putting an ati card on an nVidia based chipset (680i) be a no-no?
 
Thank you, that's just what I needed.

It seems my two little cards are still viable for the time being, no need to upgrade.
