quick question

im getting a new WD 160gig black and 4 gigs of ocz pc2-6400 ram for my laptop and planning to do a fresh install of w7-64 on it.

that being said, i bought an enclosure so i can stick this current drive in it and use it as an external. now im not sure if i want to do a complete wipe of the drive.

i also plan on putting my old memory, (2 gigs pc2-6400) into my old vaio that takes Pc2-5300

my questions are, can i keep my XP install on this disk and still use it as an external in the enclosure or do i need to wipe it.

and my other question is the ram going in the old computer shouldnt be an issue right?

its a vgn sz140 if you must know

Old ram should be fine in the other laptop.

You can keep your XP install on your old disk and use it as an external. . . but you're not going to want/be able to run XP from it as an external disk - not sure if you were suggesting this or not. If you just want to keep your files untouched there's no reason you can't put it in an enclosure.
