EDIT:
I was offered a BFG 7800GT for $140 shipped and should be able to get $120 or so out of my 7600GT. I am wondering is it worth the extra $20 and hassle? Would I see much difference? This will be my last upgrade untill the first or sec gen of DX10 cards come. If I don't do this upgrade I'll likely hang on to the 7600GT till then. But if I will see little to no difference I hate to risk card arriving DOA and all that crap.

How much will you pay for the 7800gt? Check it out it's only a 5 frame gain. Very minimal for a $50 increase. I know you probably don't want to spend this much but save up a little more and an x1900xt 256mb card could be yours. As you can see on the chart I linked, it absolutely ruins all comparable nvidia cards.

I believe it wouldn't be any better upgrade. Of course, you would be able to go over to the light side of the force :D

well someone offered me a x1800xl for my 7600GT and $50. Would it be worth it? Either way this would be my last upgrade till DX10. If I don't go with this upgrade I'll likely try to stick with this 7600GT till DX10 comes(and has a budget card).

The reason X1800XL no longer exists and got replaced by the X1900GT is because it was beaten by the 7800GT overall. (ALOT of people bought 7800GTs quite some time ago against the X1800XL).

However a X1800XL has the potential to become a X1800XT which the right cooling and OCing. The card at stock is faster than a 7600GT.

You can either get it, or wait for the DX10 cards. Rumoured 8800GT pricing is $449, so its pretty steep. Your best best for upgrading right now isnt a X1800XL (unless you can get it for really cheap) is either a X1900GT/7900GT, or even a X1800XT.

I'd counter offer for $30 or $40. It's not a huge jump, but it might be just what you need to hold you over til you're ready for a next gen card. Depends what you play and at what resolution. At least this way you won't be paying any shipping and have to make two separate deals to buy and sell.

Dont upgrade.. a 7600GT will probibly hld you until DX10 cards (and probibly to the more mature and HOPEFULLY less power hungry second gen of DX10 cards) so you can save those $50 to use on geting a beter card when those come out (so lets say, guessing the naming of course, a 8950GT instead of a 8900GT or something like that.)

DX10 won't be supported in games untill q4 of '07 I think. Thats way to long for me to wait. I would just get a x1900xt 256mb and be very very happy.

7800GT is faster. X1800XL was a weak card, the X1800XT was vastly superior.

If you're looking for a tangible upgrade, I'd get an X1900XT 256MB or a 7900GT.

Anything less and it's barely a step up from your 7600GT.

What about the 7900GS? Or maybe the 7900GTO? I'm not trying to promote nvidia or anything but they do fit within the range of your suggestions.
