QUICK QUESTION

yo im thinking about getting a A64 3700+ San Diego, but im not planning to oc it. how long will this last for the future? and will it limit a 7800 gt?

edit\\ i upgrade about every 4 years and optimal res is 1280x1024 and i mainly game or internet

well, i asume by "last" you mean, play the current games. it depends on if you really want to play them on high. then, probably 1 year, maybe more. if you can sacrifice some setings, it will last 4 years. it wont limit the card. imo - OVERCLOCK IT!

It won't limit a 7800gt. Its hard to tell how long it'll last, mostly because it depends on what graphics settings you want to run at (I'm assuming you are primarily a gamer because of the 7800gt). By the end of next year, dual threaded games will be out, so you might want to upgrade to a dual core CPU, but the 3700 should still be a perfectly good processor.

lets see 4yrs you would turn 18yrs of age,

don`t have to use parents computer anymore,

could afford to get a job and buy a new computer,

Yeah 4 yrs is about right....rofl

if you dont plan to OC and want to keep the rig for 4 years....bite the bullet and get a 3800 X2 IMHO...that is more "future-proof"....

If it has to last 4 years, it needs to be futureproof. And the future is multicore, so i'd go for an X2 3800+.

Instead of buying a 7800 gt now, get something more midrange, and two years from now buy another midrange card. Your average gaming experience will be better, for about the same cost. 4 years is a long time for a graphics card if you want to play the new games. A midrange card, two years from now will probably outperform a 7800 gt.

The 3500+ should do just fine. Shouldn't limit the 7800GT. Forget all the futureproff BS!
