Quick question

If I hit the power button and the only activity is the CPU fan spinning for a brief second, do you think the power supply is toast? Thanks.

prob worth clearing cmos again, taking battery out etc etc - you know the drill.......

Try it barebones - just cpu/ram/psu/vga
when that doesnt work - try without vga
then without ram

if still no beeps, then swap out power and see if that does the trick.
I look forward to hearing the results

CMOS did it... man this is a weak problem 😛

anyway i'm kickin around in BIOS now. interestingly enough, this POS was given to me with the explanation "ummmmmmm it doesn't work"

🙂 should be fun

sooner or later, they will get their come-uppance - usually just after i have saved a very important document, right over another very important document,

They then quickly erase all traces of this doc, and expect me to be happy about such things

bloody chips

I'm attempting to update the BIOS now, since now it doesn't want to boot 😛 it posts fine, however it is only seeing the 40gig HD as a 6 gig? LOL I think the CMOS slap made her go all caveman on me. After it does the drive check it sits for 10 seconds and then continues to a blank screen & hangs.

Unfortunately on the ECS website (mobo is ECS k7sem rev 1.0 EW!!!!!!!!!) check this f'ugly ho out!! ... they only offer a BIOS updater than is ran from Windows?? ('winflash'). I need to update from a floppy or USB key. What prg can i use to do that? i have the .bin file. just need the means... hmm

gotta love that little LAN header. it just looks so cute 🙂

can you install win98se and see if you can do it that way?

What happens at boot?

Just saw the piccie,,,,,,, aaaaahhhhhh isn't it cute

well, i would hate to install 98 on it just to have to install xp anyway. it's 1.3ghz so it can handle xp.

i'm just gonna download awdflash and do it manually... lol this is sh!t. now i have to power down my main rig just to hook up a dumb floppy cable 😛 be back in a bit. thx eh monty!

well monty I ended up switching over to the other repair job for a change of pace and got it done, i'll be getting back to this rig later when i get home from work... i'll keep u posted =)
