I have to build a system.. at work, and I got everything on stock execpt for the processor & motherboard.

I have a PC100 Memory with teh numbers:

LGS
GM72V66841CT10K
9812 Korea

I cant seem to find info from it.. I know its an LG chip.. but will this work with a say an Athlon, or duron, and if so what speed at maximum.
Also what speed can I go upto on an Intel chip - 600 at max or can I touch 700Mhz?

Thankx

Look like it has a 10ns rating. 100MHz. It'd work because Athlons and Durons only run at 100MHz FSB.

what speed though.. ? can I take it to 1Ghz?
with a GHz proc? or what will I max out at on a Proc.. no overclocking.

It has nothing to do with the processor, it's all in the chipset.
The FSB on Pentium3's can only be 100 up to a 600Mhz CPU. Intel doesn't make them higher than that with a 100Mhz FSB. Currently any athlon/duron on the market uses a 100Mhz FSB.
But it depends on what the motherboard can do.

With the Via KT133 (Athlon chipset) you can run the memory and FSB at different speeds. So you can use PC100 with any speed Athlon/Duron.

The same is true of the Via Apollo Pro 133A I believe, you can run a P3 1Ghz at 7.5x133, but run the memory at 100Mhz still, this will hurt performance a bit, but you can do it.

AFAIK you can't do this with intel chipsets though.

Well, first off, running PC100 ram has nothing to do with the cpu. it depends only on the motherboard and the fsb speed.

Theoretically, the PC100 RAM will work for Thunderbird and Duron, since they run at 100FSB. However, AMD is quite picky on RAM coz' effectively the speed is at 200MHz since they read on both edge of the clock.

In fact I have seems some cases where even PC133 RAM fails on Tbird or Duron system. Not saying it will fail on you, but just as reference.

Ok you can run that ram with a 12 bazilion ghz cpu(at 100mhz fsb)
If you overclock that ram do not expect much more than 110mhz

Thanks guys,
This time around I am going Intel,as much as I want to go AMD. However going by the knowledge that AMD does not like certain memory, I would rather give this guy - an exec.producer at the company a 600Mhz Intel That way he is cool about it. I am going to go try get a I815 chipset that way I can use SDRAM and use teh Synergy II card as video.
