quick question - what kind of a cable for receiver to sub?

As long as it's a powered sub and your receiver has a subwoofer pre-out, then yes. If you don't have one of those spare (like Nohr mentioned above), then one of these would be good.

[sarcasm] I wouldn't use anything but a Monster subwoofer cable: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=monster+subwoofer+cable&cid=1480979814892420233&sa=title#p. Granted it costs more than I paid for my sub, but I immediately noticed the difference compared to the 84-cent Monoprice cable that supposedly does the exact same thing. [/sarcasm]

Hey, that's not a fair comparison at all. The Monster Cable one is 24 feet long. You'd have to pay OVER $4 for one of those at Monoprice! 😛
