Quick question: What is the difference between the 875 DFI Lan Party versions A and B? Does not say on their website.

mainly a voltage increase, a few bugs that were in the original one mainly. Nothing I can pin down, I was told it was just an improvement, a bit more mature, with again, more voltages/options.

I will have one within the next week (heh, they shipped mine out to a customer accidentally!) and will let you know, as I have done every darn thing possible to the "A" revision of the LP I875 and its one hell of a board!

ah chunky, was it you that needs the I875 BIOS chip?

I have this horrible feeling that I mixed you up with a guy at the AMDMB forum needing an NF2 bios chip =(

I pM'd ya, please resend all the info to my email (can be found in my profile also I think) and I will get this done ASAP or let you know that it has already been shipped.

pretty much lol...no special features that the LP board has. Same I875 Pro chipset, same excellent overclocking abilities as the LP board.

my server is the Infinity I875 Pro and its got a 100FSB P4 2.0Ghz @ 2.65Ghz (max it will go seems). Flawless board.

yep. I have the LP 875 sitting right next to the Infinity 875. Great boards. I only have a 2.0-100FSB p4 in the Infinity, but it boots right up to 2.65Ghz (max it will go) no problems. I know that if I dropped the 2.4C in it, it would perform the same as the LP. Im trying to rid myself of the 2.0 so I can purchase a 2.4C and put my money where my mouth is =)

I agree I love my LP875. My question is does the new version support the infamous "Prescott"? I wish Intel wouldn't have bent us over earlier this year, cuz I really enjoy this mobo, and am not able to replace it again before the next socket change, etc. Guess I just have to hope that Prescott isn't all it's cracked up to be...

heya Warlord, here is DFI's official answer on Prescott support:

"The microcode of the cpu should beonly slightly changed, and the architecture it is built on should allow for all current Canterwood boards to support this cpu with a simple BIOS upgrade. Unfortunately Intel has not finalized the specs on this processer, and it is still undergoing changes as I write this to you. This means that it is supposed to work, and Intel has assured top-tier manufacturers that yes it will be compatible with current Canterwood/478 designs, it could change without prior notice."

basically, since Intel hasn't figured out how to make it a hotplate instead of a combustion oven hehe...we dont know if current Canterwoods will actually support a finalized Prescott or not.

more voltage is the word i heard. not sure about 3:2, many ppl were more concerned about 5:4 last time around (apparently not just DFI boards had a problem with P4's and the 5:4? Intel im still catching up on =). 3:2 works great on both the LP and Infinity I875 boards for me.

On my Pro875 when I go past 500mhz on mem around 510mhz the post screen shows a really screwed up mem rating.. like 11mhz with a bunch of weird characters...

My zalman is coming in this week so I'm going to try and get the 2.8c I have past my 3.57ghz mark(max I can get on stock HSF)..

The memory divider option was not working for me, I'm hoping I can get it to work.. Want to see what this chip maxes at.

I'm using OCZ DDR500 Gold (4 x 256mb)

vsop its not unusual to see that 11Mhz deal when you have it ramped up to extreme speeds lol.

the Zalmann will help a lot. We were getting 3.2Ghz @ 5:4 with the stock hsf (PC3200 RAM only) at nearly 60°C. After slapping a SLK-800U on it, the temps dropped to about 44°C when we clocked it up to 3.2Ghz @ 1:1 with PC4000 (272x12). Using the 5:4 we were able to hit 3.7Ghz, but it doesn't seem to like the dividers much.

Also check out this new thing from Swiftech, the MCX-159P (for Intel, MXC-159A for AMD) NB cooler...looks just like a normal swiftech HSF for cpus...that can help quite a bit too.

your OCZ Gold is some good ram. SHould be able to crank at least 260FSB out of it. Not sure about your cpu though, as I am using one of the 1.475v 2.4C's. My 1.525v 2.4C does not clock nearly as well =/

my "B" board should be here monday or tuesday...ill have a much better idea of whats different then =)

I'm installing the fan from my ATI AIW pros stock cooler on my NB...
The zalman heatpipe on my ATI limits the space I Have...

I installed a 40mm 10000 rpm fan on my brothers DFI's NB, it worked great but a bit to loud for me..

ive heard the same thing, that some of those fans are just too loud. I think you can find NB fans off an older comp and use them effectively. I have an older KT333 board that has an active NB fan and its pretty quiet =)

Angrygames,

When you say "it does not like the dividers much" does that mean the 5:4 is broken? I was hoping to use a 2.6ghz with the board and 5:4 with my old XMS3200 rev 2.1 memory (2.5-6-6-3 rated) so I did not have to buy more ram.

I thought the DFI also has a 3:2 divider?

After you get the "b" can you post (1) where we canget them from and (2) what is new etc?

So is the new DFI 875pro infinity "revision A1" = Revision B on the Lanparty??

they do have a plethora of divider options.

Currently, we took the NF2 Ultra-AL down and put the I875A back up since I am going on vacation for about a month, and my buddy wants the fastest rig in the house lol.

Right now its running this:

2.4C @ 3.01Ghz
250FSB 5:4 divider
7-3-3-2.5 A-Byte PC3200 (Samsung chips)
2.7v vdimm
+100mv cpu
1.6v AGP

I guess I should clarify that hte divider never worked for me for some RAM, mainly Kingston HyperX PC3500. This stuff would only run stable at 1:1 overclocked, and even then it would only do its rated speed of 217Mhz. At any divider, at any speeds, it would fail to either boot, or make it into windows. A very small number would get into windows and fail Prime95 on the first test.

not sure about the A1=B, basically its just a "B" revision, like the NF7-S has a rev2. The instant I get it, its going in my personal machine (the DFI NF2 LanParty which i love love love), and I will definitely tell you from my point of view whats better and what has changed =)

T

Thanks! Really want to upgrade - just waiting to see if the "b" is worth it.

It is such a great deal with the CSA LAN AND the HPT372 (great 0+1) with my 4 120WD

my "B" will be here Friday. Unfortunately I am going to Texas for a month on Saturday =/

lets see if I can get it built and do a side-by side comparison before I head out =)
