Just bought an AMD 4400+ & ASUS A8N5X MO. Opening the AMD instructions, the manual says thermal paste is required on all AMD processors. I did not realize that I needed thermal paste when I ordered the rig. To further confuse the issue, the AMD instructions do not show application of the paste on the picture diagram steps.

Do I really need thermal paste when installing the AMD??

Sorry, I might be mis-reading the instructions. AMD says "thermal interface material" which apparently is on the heatsink that I have yet to install.

In this case I do not believe I need any thermal paste application?

The stock heatsink(which is quite good actualy) comes with the thermal interface material already on it, so unless you remove and re-install the heatsink, you don't need to get any.

But make sure you remove the little piece of plastic protecting the thermal interface material before you install the heatsink ... ;).
