Hi, I am getting a set of Logitech Z-640 speakers.. This is going to be my first ever 5.1 setup.

Right now I have a Soundblaster Live Value card in my computer.

Am I going to need a new sound card to take full advantage of 5.1 sound?

or all I have to do is:

Plug front left, front right speakers into line out #1
Plug rear left, rear right speakers into line out #2
***Plug Sub/Center into the digital out?

I am not sure about the digital out... what is the difference between a SB Live value w/ digital out and a SB Live 5.1?

Thanks!

Yes, you need a new 5.1 compatible sound card. I would recommend a Hercules Fortissimo 7.1 or Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

Edit: This looks good if you need something cheap.

Umm, I have a sb live value and a z-640 set. I decided that I don't feel I need a center channel so I push in the matrix button and it takes care of that (matrix button makes a pseudo center channel by blending both left and right).

Hell, I have actually run the two stereo connectors I did use through the Belkin SOHO kvm's microphone and speaker connections to make it work with both computers.

Ok, so I guess I will have to use my onboard sound to take advantage of 5.1?

What is the difference between a SB Live Value w/ Digital Out (CT4830)

and

SB Live 5.1 ?

Well my brother has a normal SB Live Value and Livedrive.. i don't think that will help my situation though.. ? :(
