So -- say I purchase my domain through namecheap.com

I have a server box pushing that has a site setup, working perfectly. Now how do I get it so that namecheaps registration sees my domain?

I have a dynamic IP Address, so when and if it changes, id like to just easily modify one or two places so it works with the new IP.

How exactly does this all work? If I am hosting it on my box, is there something special I have to do, to redirect it to the box via DNS?

I tried setting up my own NS1.vivicalproductions.com on namecheaps website, but it seems to not be working...I gave it 4 days, and its not working correctly, any insight appreciated!

Depends on whether namecheap is just the registrar or if they're doing DNS hosting for you as well. If they're doing DNS hosting then you have to use whatever tools they give you to setup DNS entries for your domain. If they don't do DNS hosting then you need to find a DNS host, you might be able to host DNS yourself too but since you have a dynamic IP that wouldn't work out too well.

How would I host my own DNS? Is there a free app out there? Namcheap has a NameServer setup, in which I created 2 DNS's..I think.

NS1.vivicalproductions points to my IP
as does NS2 version. I also set it up so that the site registrar points to these two DNS's.

I do not understand why it doesn't work I guess. My server is DMZ'd and I can access it via IP, and my dyndns site : http://vivi.webhop.net/

You need to create an A record that points your domain to your servers IP.

Sounds easy, but how do I do that?

You need to have a DNS host. Either use namecheap or host your own just like Nothinman said.

The thing is, I am using namecheap...but I am not sure I set it up correctly--because I cannot connect to my website.

First you need to have them hosting your DNS. I don't know if it's free or not with namecheap, but once that's enabled then you would just go in and edit your DNS zone and add the A record.

Would probably be easier to ask their tech support :)
