Quick question re: thermal paste

Hi all

I have a Core2Duo which is running about 45-50 degrees idle. A bit hot for my liking.

I removed the heatpipe from the CPU and found that the thermal paste has been put on to a plastic coating (which peels off) which covers the base of the heatsink.

Should that be the case? or did the manufacturer forget to peel off the plastic? i.e should the thermal paste not be put directly on the copper base of the heatsink?

Im sure thats the problem but want to double check first...

Cheers all.

You forgot to peel of the plastic coating...

It's there to protect the thermal pad until you are ready to install the heatsink on the CPU (not heatpipe, fyi).
