I am looking to update my way outdated Hercules Prophet II MMX videocard to something better. I am not looking at anything top of the line. My computer is a 1.6 MH Pentium with 512 MB DDR. I was looking at getting either a good Geforce4ti4200 128 MB card or a Radeon 9600 Pro card.

What do you think of this card for this price:

I know the ti4200 is not DX9 compatible, but I can find them for around $100 while a Radeon 9600 Pro is not going much lower than $150.

I do not play games obcessively or anything, but want an upgrade. What is you opinion on the best budget card that will still keep me relatively happy on current games? Thanks a lot.

At this point I have a Ti4200, an ATI 9600Pro and an old G2 GTS. There is a big performance diff between the G2 and the others. Right now (cuz not many real DX9 games around) I don't see much, if any, difference between the Ti4200 and ATI 9600Pro. You will see a big diff to whichever you upgrade to from the MX card. I think the Ti4200 are a great card for the price now, but you'd prolly want to upgrade next year with the new games titles coming out (HL2 and DIII) that have more DX9. I guess your choice w/b get the Ti4200 now and upgrade next year, or spend the extra for the 9600 Pro.

Probably go for the 9600 Pro right now if you are considering it. Will last u longer than the 4200 and its a nice all around card that will also mop the floor with the ti4200 in dx9 games

In what way, shape or form will the 9600pro last longer? Dont even include DX9 in this convo because even the 9600XT cant perform well in DX9 titles.
If DX9 is your only argument, then you should edit your post out. IMHO.

Well it might not be the best in DX9 games but the 9600pro would do better with AA/AF than a Ti4200, but if you dont care about thsoe things, the ti4200 will suffice.

Agreed. Ti series are terrible when it comes to AA/AF.
9600pro wins there easily.
