quick question on vista.

I have an opteron165 so I can definitely install (and want to) the 64 bit version of vista.

The question I have is... will I be losing out on performance of current software titles that aren't 64bit?

I am just afraid that I will get crap performance in my games if I have a 64bit OS.

Any thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you have bad peformance in anything it'll be because of extra crap Vista's doing or immature drivers and not anything 32-bit/64-bit related.

Although I have an ATI card (X1900XT) instead of an Nvidia card like you have listed in your sig, I've found Direct3D games to run no slower in Vista than in XP, which actually surprised me. (I've been running Vista x64 as my main OS for more than a month now, first RC1 then 5728 and now RC2). OpenGL is still unsupported on ATI's latest drivers, but I remember reading that this was not the case for Nvidia.

The only other problem you're likely to run into is that Creative's most recent beta drivers are less than stellar (surprise, surprise), so they're not exactly straightforward to install - mainly you need to disable the driver integrity check with F8 at every boot. Once I did get them working though, I actually don't have too many issues with them - 5.1 sound and OpenAL in games works pretty well.
