quick question on getting one's own ip

what is the best way to get the ip then that would potentially be on that search page for riaa subpeonas?

cause when i type in "ipconfig" i get one set of ip's, and at www.whatismyip.com i get a completely diff. one... which is most likely?

In XP you type "ipconfig".

This works as well.

Not to nitpick but that only works for your external address 😉

True, but if he had his own LAN with internal ips he probably would not ask such a question, now would he? 😉

Well, there are "Routers" with built-in DHCP server and they make NAT and everything, no need to set your IP or something 🙂

ndee, the nitpicker 😉

whatismyip gives your external IP Address. That is what would be seen by people who download from you or sites you visit. Your ISP probably gives you a dynamic IP as well (changes from time to time). Thus, if you shared songs a month ago, it might not have been with the same IP you have now. That is why the RIAA subpoenas the ISP, they keep logs of which customer was logged on when, and with what IP address. The RIAA Gets that information, combines it with the list of files they saw on your computer, and prepares their case.
