Quick Question on Dual Channel DDR Setup

I was wondering how much of a performance gain will I get if I went to a Dual Channel setup for my system? For my setup, is it worth going to Dual Channel? You can see my current system if you click on "My Rigs" at the bottom of my msg. I currently have one stick of Kingston 512MB 2700 DDR (the ValueRAM version). I would buy another stick of Kingston 512MB 2700 to match if going to Dual Channel.

Thanks for any input you can give me.

There's not a HUGE performance gain going with dual channel but there is some. You'll also get the boost up to 1GB of memory which can help in some apps and games.

If you decide to go with dual channel..Circuit City has the 512MB pc2700 sticks of value ram on sal for $80 I think. The thing that's really good about the deal is that people are getting sticks with 4.3ns Hynix RAM which will overclock very easilty to pc3200-3500 speeds.

Do both sticks have to be an exact match? Like my current stick of 2700 Kingston 512MB has Micron chips and if I get a 2700 Kingston 512MB with Hynix chips, would that matter??

Technically, you should be able to use any two sticks that have the same organization (??x??), can run the same speeds/timings, and that have the same size (organization being the same would mean the same size). Now, most people try to minimize the potential for conflicts by buying the same brand at the same time. Could it work? sure. Could it also not work? Also possible.
