What age do people normally get retainers? Neither me or my brother ever needed them so I have no idea....

The typical age is around middle school/early high school...
Thats actually changing though. More and more people are getting retainers and braces even as adults. Since braces are getting smaller and more invisible I've seen many adults recently getting them for the first time, or (if you're like me and didn't wear your retainer after you got the braces off) going back for a second round of braces. I need to schedule an appointment with a dentist to get them back on eventually.

My sister-in-law didn't get retainers until she was about 30. She didn't have any money until she married a workaholic with lots of guidas.

I have a top and bottom retainer right now. I got them as soon as I got my braces off. There was like one day between where I didn't have anything. I have to wear these bitches for a year... :(

Ok, pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between the retainers and braces? Before you start yelling at me -- remember, I never needed either!!!

i had braces for 2 years and they gave me a retainer afterwards, but i never wore it. My teeth are fine now, almost 9 years later.
