Quick question for Canon 1D users

If the camera is set to the highest resolution, how big are the files? Someone is telling me, they're about 1.6 megabytes as jpegs and when opened they are around 11.5 megabytes?

Does that sound familar?

It all depends on ISO used.
ISO 100 - Large Fine JPG - 1.2MB
ISO 1600 - Same - 2.6 MB or so.

RAW - (TIF on card) - is 2.5MB or so (ISO 100)

Now, once you convert the RAW to 16BIT TIFF it will have 14-17MB

8BIT - 7-8 MB (ISO 100)

On the side note, the CF cards prices have gone down so much that it is not that expensive to own a couple of 1GB cards. For the 1D owners it is a dream come true.

1D is still a Great Camera!!!

I'm not sure, I was just quoting him. He'll be shooting to JPEG so I want to make sure how to get none or the least degradation in quality. He's not he most tech savvy person so I wanted to make sure.
yeah, 11.5MB opened in photoshop but that's just quoting him.

Does 1.6MB saved sound about correct for max quality with JPEGs?
