The retail A64 754pin heat sink ships with a thermal pad attached to it, but do you remember if you had to peel away a piece of paper protecting the thermal pad before you attached the heat sink to the cpu/mobo?

Last night I installed a retail 3700+ into a DFI LanPary nF3 250Gb mobo while I was very... very tired. I remember that I did not peel away any thermal pad paper, but I just read something this morning that mentions the possibility of peeling away a piece of paper before installing the heat sink. So now I'm a bit worried.

if its working, you shouldn't have to worry. From what I hear it sounds like there is usually a plastic piece that covers in in packaging but is attached in no way. Check your temps out with Sisoft sandra, if they are less than 50C you are OK

I'm thinking you'd know right away if you left a barrier in place. And now that you mention it, I don't remember if there was one on mine at all. All I remember is that the heatsink was snugly secured in a formed plastic container...

There was no paper to peel away on the thermal material of my retail A64 754pin (newcastle 2800+) ... just the protective clear plastic piece over the whole bottom of the unit. You are probably fine (but check your temps to verify).
