Quick question..Fastest supported Athlon on K7S5A

Like the title says, what is the fastest AMD chip I can put in my K7S5A? This is one of the first boards ECS made, and I know it supports the Athlon XP series as I have a 1700+ currently.

TIA

What revision is it, 1.x or 3.x? The 3.x officially supports all 266mhz athlon xps. The 1.x doesnt officially support xps at all.

Anyway, if you're running a 1700+ on the 1.x, i'd definately like to know as my wife's is a 1.x

I remember reading it was 2400+ but I cannot remember if the 2600+ was out then, I would say that with the 3.x boards and the latest bios it should support all 266 fsb ones.

I think it's the 1.x revision, as I got this board soon after they become available...So as long as the chip has a 266mhx core, I should be ok? Even if it has the barton core? Does the stepping make any difference as far as compatibility?

TIA

According to here as of 09/09/02 the K7S5A supports up to a 2600+ . You should email ECS support, in my experience they're really good with this type of inquiry. I sent an email regarding 2200+ support in the fall when I was getting ready to purchase this board and they replied in <24hrs.

Thorin: do you have the 3.x or the 1.x?

Submit: I doubt the 1.x board will take the Barton, but i'm not sure. But certainly any T-Bred w/266mhz as long as you have the latest BIOS/chipset drivers.

I had a Palomino 1600+ XP on my K7S5A rev 1.x board and it worked fine. Not sure on Tbreds though.

Well, Submit says he's using the 1700 xp in his 1.x board. Isn't that a T-bred? I guess I need to do some more research on CPUs 🙂

Well after some research it seems that the only major difference between the Barton and Tbred cores is cache size...

Anyway, come on back here when you're done with them. I'd like to know what they have to say about this 🙂

It's the same bios? Oh right, the new BIOS ECS released support faster CPUs. I get ya 🙂

Time to post a question on that...
