Hi there everyone, i'm looking at buying a black case maybe. Its nice looking and is all black with a good 400w PSU and a bay door on the front. Thing is I was wondering if black cases were any hotter than white ones. I know it'll absorb a lot more sunlight and be hot then, but it won't be in much sunlight anyway. Dumb question I know but will the colour affect temperature at all?

Also I found a site earlier that sells AGOIA XP1600's specifically, this is one of the good steppings yes?

Thanks, Mark :)

true that dark aborbs more light, but as for disipating heat i really doubt the color of the case would really make much difference at all

Thanks, but I think it might sortof affect it. Radiators are painted matt colours so they lose heat faster I know that for sure, or maybe its shiny I dunno. Specifically one or the other though.

SaintGeorge,

I have a Black Antec case that sounds similar to the one that you are describing. My temps and system are listed below... I hope it helps you decide. =)

1.57 VCore
350 Watt Antec Power Supply
4 Case Fans
ThermalTake Volcano CPU Fan/HS

Loaded 45-47C

black pigments absorb more light energy (vis/uv) than white pigments. they get hot when the light energy is converted to heat energy(ir). the ability of a pigment to absorb and retain heat energy is generally dependent on the matrix in which it is suspended.
therefore, a black painted case will not absorb more heat than a case painted white, but it will likely absorb more light energy.
The available light in a room lit by an incandescent or fluorescent bulb is certainly not enough to 'warm up' the black pigments in black paint. Perhaps in an isothermal setting, the heat would accumulate. however, air flow in the room will typically remove as much heat from the case as is generated until equilibrium is attained.

no need to worry. get a black case, they look good!
