Quick question about XP key

Ugg.. lost my XP SP2 cd it seems. Can I reinstall using my brother's SP1 cd and my OEM code (his cd is OEM too).

anyway, there is no way to tell until you try, and even then you will probably have to call microsoft for activation

Activation isnt a problem, I've just missplaced my cd.....

was yours a retail or oem? if it is oem it should work, retail i don't think it will

I thought the cd keys were tied in with the different service packs, meaning when you type in it on setup it will say it's an invalid key if you're using a sp1 key with a sp2 cd or vice versa. More than likely I'm wrong but for some reason I remember reading that.

I think your key should work as long as the installation is the same type, ie home/pro or retail/oem. I've used the same key on a Home CD with no service packs later when I reformatted using a Home CD with SP2 slipstreamed.
