Quick question about X58 BIOS and CPU support

If i have an older X58 Gigabyte board, will I be able to get it working with one of the newer socket 1366 CPU's even if the BIOS was never updated ? Will it show up as a generic CPU or at a lower speed ? I never worked with x58 so I'm unsure....

thanks in advance

if it supports the cpu then yes. First you need to check gigabyte website to see what your board supports and doesn't. what board do you have.

It's a GA-ex58 ud5. It's not a issue of the board support the CPU, but an issue of the BIOS being out of date. The CPU I would like to use is a newer i7, which was not supported by the BIOS when the board was originally released. The newest BIOS does support it today though
