Say I have a user, nuclearfusi0n, and I use it pretty much all day except when i su for administrative purposes. If I made my roommate an account, Is it possible to give him a KDE session without logging me out and killing all my running apps?
Basically, I want to do what is referring to as Fast User Switching in Windows XP (I think...)

Gentoo Linux
GDM, KDE, xfree4.3

just start two x- sessions, and switch between them... eats some RAM, but would work, and be pretty fast

But that's basically what gdmflexiserver does - it just starts another gdm on the next local display. If KDE is having issues, I'd guess it's setting some kind of lock somewhere and will have the same issues no matter which way you start the second server. What exactly is the problem, Nuclear?

edit: typo

rawr, it turns out it was because of the pure crappyness of the ATI linux drivers. I just switched to 2.6, and its built in AGPGART and ATI Radeon drivers fix the problems that I encountered when trying to do this. ;)

I have GDM automatically start two displays at boot now. ;)
