Quick question about the Windows Update icon

In the tray (I think that is what the little slot in the right hand corner of the taskbar is; the place with volume controls and active connections) there is a little Windows Update icon that is sitting there. Whenever I hover over it, a pop-up description says, "Downloading Updates: 0%".

It is always like this. I don't have Service Pack 2 (nor do I want it at the moment). Shouldn't it disappear when I have no updates to install?

aslong as you have automatic updates turned on it will always(iirc, i have automatic updates turned off) be there if it there are any critital updates to do. You could turn off automatic updates and it will go away, or just uses the hide inactive icons

turn it off in services.msc if it is annoying you. i dont know if that will affect your windows update though

edit; probably easier to just turn it off in system from control panel. i have mine disabled because i check about once a week myself because i like to know when something is making a change to my computer, not having papa bill do it for me

Can anyone confirm this who has Automatic Updates on? I know I could turn the service off, and it won't affect normal Windows Updating, but I always forget to go to the site.
