Quick question...about the AMD 3500+ and intel..

I'd say a 3.4 Ghz was the intended target, but most Anandtech readers would probably agree with me that for games and many other applications a ~ 4 Ghz Pentium 4 would be needed to match a 3500+.

Agreed 3.4 would be roughly equivilent. However beware that while HT is great for doing multiple things at once... It can screw you sometimes in single threaded apps like graphics rendering. I guess if you have hyperthreading enabled, but are only using one thread, it slows down a bit for whatever reason. However as mentioned above, when it comes to gaming, AMD pwn3z! Intel will have a hard time touching the 3500 with anything afordable.

Generally speaking, I'd agree that a 3500+ is closest to a Intel 3.4GHz in performance. But, keep in mind that in games the 3500+ spanks even the intel 3.8GHz most of the time.

640 is not equivalent to 3500+
Check out AT's recent Linux dualcore test. The3500+ and 640 are along for the comparison, and 3500+ mostly beats 640 with a handsome margin.
