Quick question about the 7900 gt co

Today i just recieved my 7900 GT CO from the evga step-up, and notice in cool bits that the memory clock is at 750mhz, i assume you just double it to consider the 1500mhz effective clock? Also, I have a Fortron 450W PSU, and I get messages saying it has lowered performance to make up for lack of power. Apparently, this cheap PSU is not enough. Lastly, In 3dmark05 I only got a score of 7447, is the lack of power effecting my performace? Thanks in advance.

if the memory is DDR (nearly all graphics cards use ddr nowadays) then you double the memory clock (dual data rate) for the effective clock. Dont know about your power situation though. a 450W should be enough, but who knows...

are you runnign alot of hd's and such? did u forget the power connector (not to insult ur intelligence)

Actually I am not running much, I will tell you my specs since I forgot to include them.

AMD 3200 venice
ASROCK Dual SATA2
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 4
40x HP Cd-rom/DVD Rom
16x DVD-RW
Exelestor 80gb 7200rpm HD
3 case fans(1 120mm, 2 80mm)
Zalman 7000 CPU cooler
EVGA 7900gt co
2gb geil ram

Thats it....not enough power on the rails perhaps?
All connections are firmly in place.

hmm
I have the co superclock. I was getting 9000ish at stock speeds... then OC my CPU... to 2.4ghz from 2ghz and was getting 9600, then OC the card after volt mod and break 11000.

what drivers are you using?

whats the profile set to?

u sure you dont have AA or AF on in the drivers as you run the test?

did you set them to 3dmark05 in the profile menu?

are you on high quality, instead of just quality?

Im using the free version of 3dmark05, just so everyone is aware. The drivers are the 84.21, because the evga drivers will not work for some reason. High quality is on, and AA and AF are off in the nvidia settings. Ran it again and just got 8089 somehow.

Yes the 750 is normal. Before when I had my 7800GT's it would show the final clock rate after it's doubled. Now it seems it shows it before they double it.

Do some vmod's on that thing and then crank up the speed to ~650/1800+. 😉

Ok fixed the power problem, faulty power connector. Next problem is my framerates in games. When I had my 7800gt co, I was getting over 80fps on all high setting in BF2, and over 100 in Half-Life 2. With my 7900, I only get around 40 in BF2 and 80 in Half-life 2, anyone know what the problem would be? Im running newest nvidia drivers, by the way. Thanks in advance.

Did you use Driver Cleaner? The software side is the only place I can imagine an explanation for the FPS drop. Ideally when you install a new VGA card this is what you should do (well, it's what I do):

BEFORE INSTALLING NEW CARD!!
1. Go into Add/Remove and uninstall Nvidia video drivers.
2. Reboot in Safe Mode.
3. Cancel any WinXP New Hardware Found BS.
4. Run Driver Cleaner for Nvidia. www.driverheaven.net, I think
5. Power off.
6. Install your new card.
7. Power on and into norm mode.
8. More canceling WinXP detect new hardware BS.
9. Install drivers of your choice-- I'm using the tweaksrus.com 84.22 v2 at the moment and it's quite nice (prolly all in my head though).

Try this out and report back, and if someone more knowledgeable has a better VGA installation routine take their advice over ine =^)

Ryan, I did that twice, once earlier, and once more with the drivers you specified. Still no increase at all. The card wouldn't be defective, would it?
