Are top of the line 64 bit cards (Adaptec for example) backwards compatible with 32 bit PCI buses? PCI buses are normally 32 bit correct? I would hate to drop 400 for a SCSI controller to find out it wasnt backwards compatible....
As with any hardware I would read the specific specs from thier website to be sure, but most 64bit 33MHZ cards are backwards compatible to 32 bit 33MHZ slots. 64Bit 66MHZ cards may not be however due to voltage differences between 33MHZ and 66MHZ slots.
Yes. I have the Adaptec 39160 and the Tekram DC-390U3D (which I am currently trying to SELL in FS/FT). Both of these are dual channel U160 cards optimized for 66mhz/64bit. However, both of them will work at 33/32 no problem. Half the card just hangs out of the slot. Voltage issues come into play when you are trying to use them in 64 mhz slots. If the voltage doesnt match then the card will not be keyed to fit in the slot. HTH
