Quick question about SATA Express

I can't seem to find an answer that I can understand. Can I take 2 6gb/s SATA hard drives and plug them into one SATA Express slot? Is there any kind of performance hit vs plugging them into standard old 6gb/s slots?

The ones on the Intel 8 series chipsets are backwards compatible. The ones on the 9 series have a different pin layout and are not.

I have an Asus Z97-e motherboard, so which would that be?

Have you tried just making the connection? Because when I look at it, it diesn't look like it would fit. And it shouldn't.

Yes, they will act as standard 6 gb/s sata ports

For your board no as they come off the intel controller as well. If it was a 3rd party controller maybe.

The other thing to look out for as well is that the m.2 slot shares the bandwidth of this sata express port so you can have
1 m.2 drive
or
1 sata express drive
or
2 sata drives

in addition to the 4 standard sata ports already available

Thanks. So far I have a DVD drive, a SSD, and 2 hard drives plugged in so it is taking up the four SATA connectors. I am looking at adding yet another hard drive so I just wanted to make sure that I could.
