I can't seem to find an answer that I can understand. Can I take 2 6gb/s SATA hard drives and plug them into one SATA Express slot? Is there any kind of performance hit vs plugging them into standard old 6gb/s slots?
Yes, they will act as standard 6 gb/s sata portsCan I take 2 6gb/s SATA hard drives and plug them into one SATA Express slot?
For your board no as they come off the intel controller as well. If it was a 3rd party controller maybe. Is there any kind of performance hit vs plugging them into standard old 6gb/s slots?
Man need to fully have coffee before answering these questions

The other thing to look out for as well is that the m.2 slot shares the bandwidth of this sata express port so you can have
1 m.2 drive
or
1 sata express drive
or
2 sata drives
in addition to the 4 standard sata ports already available
