Quick question about power supplies...

I'm building my friend a new system, and would really like to get him a case with a 300W power supply because I believe 250W is not very much for today's systems. However, he doesn't have space to house a big-tower, and this means I'll be buying him a mid-tower instead. He has choosen the AOpen HQ-45, which includes a 250W power supply. He won't be using his PC for any really fancy stuff, but it will be made up of the following:

ASUS A7V
AMD Duron 800@... (w/GlobalWin FOP32-1)
256MB PC-143 "Mosel Vitelic" SD-RAM
NEC MultiSync FE750/FE950 (undecided yet)
IBM 30.7GB ATA-100/7,200 RPM
ATi Radeon 64MB DDR ViVo @.../...
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
Plextor 12/10/32 CD-RW
Pioneer 16/40 DVD-ROM

Do you suggest I replace the 250W power supply immediately, or should a unit of this kind be enough to power a system with the above-mentioned specifications? I am looking to overclock this CPU, and quite possibly the videocard also. I only assume that this has an increasing effect on the amount of energy each component needs. Also, he wants to do some video editing (amateur style! 🙂), so a second hard drive may be added later in RAID 0 setup. Should I wait and see what happens, or spend extra cash and upgrade to a 300W ps right from the start?

You should buy a 300w so your components won't be underpowered. Make sure it's AMD approved first. All those components look like they use more than 250w of power.

if u go with a 250 power supply...

at least get one that is amd approved...

but if you are getting a ps anyway get a 300watt

300W it is then... I hope they'll help me out a little and replace the 250W PS with a 300W kind, else I'm gonna have to buy a seperate one and will be left with a "useless" 250W PS.

alot of 250s are better than no-name 300's. Its all bout the "clean" power
