Hi Y'all,

I'm not affraid to admit to enjoting Porn Surfing once in a while, but is there any way to stop all those pop up ads? When I want to shut a window down, I want it shut down NOW! I'm running Win2k with IE5.

Thanks,
D

Well, you could disable JavaScript. But of course, then most of the other stuff would stop working too.

Deal with it. Free porn isn't exactly free.

heh heh, we used to use a supplier called Krista, so one day I forgot the webpage address and typed in what I thought it was, needless to say, that was stupid. Then I am getting all these pop ups and trying to close them all and get rid of them before someone sees, god what a mess. One of those instances where the sweat just pops out on your forehead and shivers run down your back.... :) never forgot their site address again........

A little tip: typing in www.<company stock symbol/shortend version of the name>.com isn't the same as www.<company name>.com

Found that out when I tried to check my company's home page :/

...I got a programmable keyboard with a key that hits alt+f4 3 times very rapidly, it closes browser windows faster than a T1 can open new ones.

Either use the newsgroups, get the Voyager 5000 browser with the pop up window disable function or quit whining about it.

hehe well IMO, porn sites with lots of pop-ups = low quality porn sites, which I don't really care for

Like someone else said, the sites with popups are usually low quality (cept for paysites). See, the way it works is, you go to a link list and click a link off of there. Step through, carefully, to find the pictures, and back out to the link list. If you leave the site you originally clicked on, you'll get pop ups. That's the way the sites are made. You are drawn in off the description on the link list, you see links on the site to something else you like, click that, and you're off in pop-up land.

Surprisingly, pop up ads are very effective for the porn webmaster, increasing sign ups by like 25-30%. Pretty cool. They can also be used for opening up a toplist window that will have a juicy ad saying click here for more porn. You'll click, and the website gets credit, and gets another surfer back to their site in return for your click to that toplist.

I could write a dissertation on how porn websites work. But I'd have to provide lots of links, and I'd get banned in about 3 seconds.

use the security features AND disable java/javascript/cookies, etc.

for example, put the site you have to use javascript in (http-based e-mail, anandtech, bank accounts, any where that things doesn't work in, etc) your "trusted sites catergory and set the security to medium there. change the "general internet" setting to disable javascript. done :)

that's what I do. also good for other "resource" sites, if you know what I mean ;)

Yeah I agree that sites with pop ups suck (i know from experience). After years of seraching, I have concluded that the 2 best places are Excite CLubs and Yahoo Clubs, anything you culd amgine.
