Quick Question about Multipliers/FSB Setting

Ok so i got this XP 1700+ Tbred B core. Found out it will run in my old Asus A7V classic with no hitch. Problem is the A7V classic only runs at 100MHz FSB and the CPU is designed for 133MHz... Now i know that the CPU will run at a 100MHz FSB with no problem, but am i gonna cause problems cranking the multiplier to say 12.5 (the max i can get it to for now) to run at 1250MHz?? (yes, i know its slower than the rated 1463MHz that the 1700+ should run at)

I will be looking into getting either a higher multiplier enabled on the CPU (something about the L3 and L4 bridges), or screwing with my BIOS later, but for now i just want to get this thing running.

No problems running at 12.5X...but....

Link to Workarounds article. Has info on how to mod for 13X and up Multipliers. A7V's are noted as especially good for upgrading to Tbreds. But watch out for:-

1) Default 11X 1700 resets to 3X Mobile Power Now setting when the 5th bit is set HI....needs add'l mod/s.

2) 13X thru 14X might not boot due to a bios driven buffered circuit to auto-reset FID signals. May need add'l mod. It's all in the article, a must read, esp for A7Vs.

You could also invest some $80-90 on a new nForce2 mobolike the epox 8RDA+ for $84 at newegg.com. It's a better long run solution!

That would definitely be the way to go, but you've forgotten that he'd also need to buy DDR, and more than likely a new powersupply.

johncar - Thanks for the webpage, will definately be readin up on that.

ironique - Yeah, looked at that also, but decided against it for the reasons pointed out by myocardia 🙂... But thanks for the input
