Quick question about MS ACCESS and .out file type

Hi guys,

Wondering if someone can help me with a question related to MS ACCESS and .out file type. I recieved a .out file with customer data from a client and I would like to import this file into MS ACCESS for some analysis. However, .out is a not a file type which is supported in MS ACCESS and renaming the .out file to .txt enables it to be viewed, albeit partially, in Excel.

The problem is that I am not able to import this .out file renamed as .txt file into MS ACCESS due to a 'curropt' file type error.

I need to deliver the project by Monday AM so reaching out to the client is not an option.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks, Fardringle. If I am interpreting your post correctly, this is no way to 'transform' this .out file to either a .txt or .csv for the purpose of importing it correctly into ACCESS....

If this is the case, I will have to reach out to the client and ask them to send me the file in a different format.

There may be a way to convert it, but only if you can find out what program was used to create the file. That, or have them send it to you as a .TXT or .CSV file as you mentioned.

I work with .out files all day long, and use Excel 2007 to convert them. I don't have any problems with them. It is basically a comma delimited text file type. You have to use the wizard to open it up properly and not just a right click Open With command. I haven't tried Access for these though so I can't help you there. Once I open them in Excel with the wizard, I immediately save them as .xls or as a tab delimited text file to continue working with it.

Thanks, guys.
The issue is that its a file with >10 million rows and therefore, I can't open and resave in Excel. I have asked the client to resend.
